He-kî-hakaou Ma'eha i te igoa o te rua morega: "He Tarakura a Ma'eha". Again Ma'eha said the name of the second piece: "Ma'eha's tarakura yam".
He-kî-atu A'Teke iroto i te inaga: "He Tarakura a Ma'eha, a Teke". Teke said to himself: "The tarakura yam of Ma'eha and of Teke."
He-kî Ma'eha: "He pua rau oho uri a Ma'eha". Ma'eha said: "Ma'eha's pua-rau-oho-uri yam".
He-kî Teke: "He pua rau oho uri a Ma'eha, a Teke". Teke said: "The pua-rau-oho-uri yam of Ma'eha and of Teke".
He-kî Ma'eha: "He makere a Ma'eha". Ma'eha said: "Ma'eha's makere yam".

He-kî Ma'eha: "He apuka heu a Ma'eha". Ma'eha said: "Ma'eha's apuka heu yam".
He-kî-Teke: "He apuka heu a Ma'eha, a Teke". Teke said: "The apuka heu yam of Ma'eha and of Teke".
He-kî Ma'eha: "He apuka raurau a Ma'eha". Ma'eha said: "Ma'eha's apuka raurau yam".

Note 46 They were Ma'eha's, now they are Teke's. Thus Ma'eha goes on naming the 18 types of yam which were stolen and Teke repeats them silently so as not to forget them.
